We have this overweight, orange, tabby cat that lives in our house. His name is Alfredo and he will be eighteen years old in February. And throughout all of these years, he has been a joy to us.
Recently, I was asked to Skype with a class for PRC. Even though I have done many Skypes, I still get nervous every time. But my favorite part is when the students ask me questions.
To prepare for my Skype presentation, I type out my introduction and store it on my device. My mom and I usually do a test run to make sure everything is working as it should. Then I make sure I dressed nice, and sit on the floor in front of my laptop. Ready to go!
Then suddenly I hear the familiar sound of the ringtone, and my heart quickens. As soon as I am connected, there is a classroom full of people looking right at me. After swallowing hard, I type, “Can you hear me?”
Gretchen tells me that they can, and gives me the go-ahead. So, I begin my introduction.
But right in the middle of the introduction, Alfredo decides to leap up onto my laptop and lay on the keyboard. Now, the only thing the class could see is orange fur. He just laid there on my laptop, minding his own business. Meanwhile, the class took a long look at my kitty, who was unaware he was doing anything wrong. My mom tried to shoo him away. But in the end, she had to pull him off.
I love my cat, but sometimes he is a pain. But still, I couldn’t imagine my life without him. A couple of times when I was sad, he would come over and lay on my lap. Many times our pets become our best friends or even family.
