Superman, One Call Away

Today I would like to tell you about my grandpa. My grandpa likes to tease. He has a special sense of humor. But my grandpa DOESN’T sit around the house. He is a working man. Whenever we asked him to help us fix things, he does it in a flash.

One time after coming home from a family outing, our van suddenly died without warning. We had just left Jefferson City when it happened. My brother, dad, and I were all having a great time listening to music when my mom interrupted by saying, “Something’s wrong with the van. I don’t have any power.”

My mom allowed the van to coast to the shoulder of the road. Everything dropped silent until my dad began asking her questions. He was trying to brain storm about what could be the problem. My mom tried to restart it, but it wouldn’t. My dad wondered if we ran out of gas, but my mom said that the gas gauge showed that there was plenty of gas. So, what is the problem?

My brother began to Google answers on his phone. And his search came up with something very bad and expensive. What were we going to do? We were still about 30 minutes from home. How were we going to get home? Who could we call to help us? We really didn’t know anyone in Jefferson City.

Then my mom suggested calling Grandpa. My dad didn’t really like that idea, because Grandpa lived past Eldon. But after thinking about it, my dad called him.

Grandpa said he would be right there. Then before I knew it, he pulls up. It was like a scene from a movie when the hero arrives to help save everyone from the bad guy. My heart cheered, “Hip Hip Hurray!” He got out of his truck and my dad went to meet him. They walked to the back of his truck and my grandpa grabbed his gas can. My mom seemed a little confused by this, but she just watched as grandpa filled the gas tank. After putting gas into the van, it started right up. And before I knew it my Grandpa was gone. One call, he was there! The next thing I know he’s putting gas in our van. And then “POOF!” he’s gone. He didn’t even give us a chance to thank him. And like Superman, Grandpa was our hero for the day.

I think my grandpa is Superman. He may joke with me a lot, but he is quick to give a helping hand to anyone. He is a loving and generous man.

This is Life with Kyle and I will talk to you next week.
