Shout Out

It is important to give our AAC device users enough time to practice their vocabulary in a meaningful way. One way to teach core vocabulary with repetition in a group is to do a ‘Shout Out’ activity.

In this activity, you will need to create a poster for each child (preferably with their photo). It is nice to have things to decorate the Shout Out boards available (markers, stickers etc.) Students can use their device to say how to decorate their Shout Out board. Then, have each child create a message on their device to say what they like about all of their friends.

They can practice phrases such as ‘he is’, ‘I like’ etc. This will give them repetition with variety for practicing their core words. Be sure to show them where the phrases are ahead of time so they know where to go on their device and what your expectations are for the phrases or sentences. But, most importantly – HAVE FUN!
