Riding Faith: A Movie Review

When I lost my mom at the age of 10 years old, I was sad and mad because she didn’t listen to me. I told her not go to back to the house knowing that my dad was there. However, when she went back to the house, I knew I wasn’t going to see her again. In the movie, Riding Faith which can be viewed on Netflix with Grace Van Dien and Marisa Brown, I had this same feeling. When Grace’s (Grace Van Dien) dad left for another deployment, I felt like he wouldn’t return home. That’s what ended up happening when two military soldiers knocked at their front door.  This is when Grace gave up with God and stopped going to Church. The only thing she had left of her dad was her horse, Faith. When my mom passed away, I asked for the ring my sister gave her on Mother’s Day, which I still have to this day. I had my sister put her ring on a necklace so I could wear it all the time. I felt like my mom was still with me when I wore the ring. This is similar to how Grace felt when she was with Faith. She would have flashbacks to moments when her dad, Faith, and herself all spent together.

In Riding Faith, her friend Chris (Jimmy Desheler) tried to get her out of the house and to go back to Church. But during this time bills started to pile up and they were on the verge of losing their ranch. Her mom had to start selling her dad’s things in an estate sale, they sold cattle, and eventually her horse, Faith. Grace was mad at her mom for doing this and she ran to her bedroom where she finally prayed to God. One thing Grace and I have in common is with our relationship with God and how it helped us heal. One day I asked my sister if I could go to Church and my sister said “Yes.” He changed my life and helped me through times when I was mad and sad. Every day he pulls my sight towards him. I have learned when I want to give up, he says I can do it, pulls me towards him, and gives me warm hugs. God is a never-ending relationship.
