Hello! My name is Parr Burton, and I will be writing blogs for the AAC Language Lab for the next semester. I’m 21 and a student at Kennesaw State in Marietta, GA.
I have a job at an animal rescue. It's called Mostly Mutts. It's near my school. I work there three to four times a week. My counselor Sarah from school got her kitten from there and she knew that I love animals. So, she recommended it to me.
My job is socializing dogs and cats. What I do to socialize them is to love on them and play with them. Socializing is important because you don't know what the animals have been through. It will help them learn not to be scared.
I played with a dog that was neglected and cold. His legs were really skinny. His ears were too big and he looked wobbly when he walked. He had a brother and they were dumped at the office in a box. I played with him and loved on him. Shortly after, he got his forever home. I think I definitely helped him.
I have gotten my two dogs from rescues. I got my dog Roz in May when I was eight. We had her for 12 years. I got my next dog Maize in 2022. Today, as I write, it is actually her gotcha day. Recues are important because they help pets find a forever home and they help people find their loving pets. In fact, my rescue found over 800 animals homes last year. It makes me feel good to be part of that.
