My Friend John

My friend John was always outgoing, and his smile was so contagious.  He was always happy.  We met over 10 years ago at a day camp called Camp Team, which was an outside camp.  One summer, his mom was sending him off to overnight camp for the first time, and my mom told me that his mom was all freaked out about him going.  I had gone to this camp for several years, so I knew that he would be a little scared being away from home for the first time.  My mom told his mom to say to him that I would be there and that I would watch out for him.

First of all, this camp is like Disney World, but in North Carolina.  It is so fun.  I went for six years, and I loved every second of it.  I loved the Fab Shop, where you can get all petty.  You can get hair, nails, and makeup done.  There was also a water park, horses, llamas, bowling, and a zip line.  John was excited and nervous.

I looked out for him the whole time.  When we were together, I kept looking back at him to make sure he was okay.  I told the counselors that I had to check on John, and they didn’t forget.  He was fine and happy the whole time.  I think he felt good that I was there with him.  After camp, his mom told my mom that John would be coming back the next year.

By supporting my friend, I know that love is important to friendship and friendship is important to love.  Acts of love and friendship mean a lot to me and make me feel great.  It’s part of being a good friend.
