Have you noticed how many disability advocates are there with actual disabilities???
News flash for you guys— there are not many.
There is not many even less people that use speech generated devices. There are three different types of disability advocacy. There is self-advocacy, individual advocacy and systems advocacy. Self advocacy is pretty self explanatory pun intended you are just advocating for yourself. Individual advocacy is you are advocating on behalf of someone else. Systems advocacy is changing policies, laws or rules that impact how someone lives their life. These goals can be targeted at a local, state, or national agency. I been doing disability advocacy since 2010. If you are interested being an awesome advocate, contact your local Disability Coalition. Like I said earlier we need first hand experience Disability Advocates.
