Broken Pieces

Staying in a hospital can be a little boring. While staying at St. Louis Children’s hospital this week, my parents and I sometimes go exploring.  Once this week there was an art class in the garden and we had to check it out.  There was a table covered with hundreds of broken, useless pieces of glass.  Maybe each piece had once been part of a gorgeous dish someone had on a shelf, or a lamp that someone read a very good book under, or something amazing.  Now they were just broken nothings.

For the art project you pick out some pieces and they put them in a 1,000-degree oven.  The pieces melt together and become a smooth custom object that can be made into a necklace, keychain, or a magnet.  Looking at all the broken pieces made me think about people including myself.  We are all broken in many ways.  Shattered from losing someone close.  Chipped from harsh words that someone said or posted on social media. Cracked from comparing ourselves to other people and thinking that we are not good enough.  Or you work so hard to do one thing, and you are finished in minutes, now you’re asking what is next. Busted from rejection or hurt.  Sometimes we are physically broken in our bodies.

But we are not useless and we are not done.  Our creator can pick up all of our broken pieces and make something beautiful again. All the ugly dirt and all of the cracks; He mends everything together again.  No matter how broken you feel, never, EVER, give up!  Instead, choose to give the broken pieces to God and He will melt them together.  God will give you a new purpose.  And if you get break again, there are no limits to how many times God will take the pieces and make something new.  I hope you have a good week.  This is Life with Kyle and I will talk to you next week.
