Make a fun patriotic wand!

ribbon wand

 What you need:

  • red ribbon
  • blue ribbon
  • white ribbon
  • dowel or stick

 What to do:

Cut 12-inch strips of the ribbon in all three colors.

Ask the student what is needed to get the ribbon on the stick.  If they are unsure, simply model phrases like "put on," "make it," "turn around," "want red," etc.

Have the student tell you what color to put on first.  Ask them what they want to put on next until the stick has lots of riboons on it.  Be sure to tie them on one end and leave the other end plain for them to hold.

Students can choose to turn the wand around with their hand or to put it on their wheelchair, walker, book bag, etc.
