The term manual communication board refers to a ‘no-tech’ AAC support that students can use to express themselves. Typically printed on paper and laminated, most MCBs have grids of words organised by part of speech (e.g. verbs in one area, adjectives in another). These boards can be used to model vocabulary for a student or can be used as a back up if a student’s device is not working or not charged. The number of locations refers to how many boxes there are on the page. One hit refers to a single hit vocabulary. Sequenced is for vocabulary that require multiple hits to reach a word or phrase. Labels will show additional vocabulary for the button.
